Canberra Camp Blog 2024

Day 4 - Tuesday 12 November

12.11.24

AIS Tuesday was another jam packed day in Canberra! We began with another scrumptious breakfast, with an added bonus of hash browns on offer! The year 6 cohorts favourite food after Mrs Ransom’s famous potato cakes. The Australia Institute of Sport was a hit for all students as we were able to venture around with our own athlete to guide us. One group had expert Izzy who was a swimmer at the institute. She was able to inform us all about how they have the highest technological support in Australia to guide and critique their swimming with 26 cameras around the pool either underground through glass windows, on the side of the pool, or with detachable GoPros. The Embassy Tour was quite entertaining, especially learning about how much Anthony Albanese loves pasta and is fortunate enough to live across from the Italian Embassy! After rolling down the hill of Parliament House, we entered through security and met our tour guides. Even though there was no “sitting” occurring today, we were still able to visit the Senate and House of Representatives and add to our knowledge and understanding of Australian Democracy. We were also able to take part in a role play of “How to Pass a Bill” in parliament. It was great to see students engaged, supporting their peers, and voicing their opinions. We were also able to meet Simone McDonnell who had completed the Canberra Camp with St. Paul’s school in 1997. Simone is now an adviser to the Federal Minister of Emergency Management, the senator Jenny McAllister. Our day was not finished until we visited BOUNCE! Two hours of running, jumping, flipping, and whatever other moves you could pull off with support from the trampolines. You could not wipe the smiles from the students, and the parents, faces. We can guarantee that the students will sleep well tonight with our last night at Canberra Park. Goodnight!
