Titans USA Tour: Day 16 - Sunday 10 December 2023

10.12.23

“In Los Angeles, everyone is a star.” Denzel Washington

After three days of homestays our poppets were a tad on the tired side this morning – and the 6.30am start didn’t help. So, after the farewells with their new friends and promises to come visit in Australia, we all hopped on the bus, and they slept.

We arrived at the Sacramento Airport, checked in with minimal fuss (apart from a bit of unwelcome frisking at security for some of our travellers) and had minimal time to spare before boarding. Then once on the plane, we slept.

We were roused from our aerial slumber when we landed in Los Angeles, and then the excitement started to build. We were in LA baby…..

The weather was warm and the sun was out. We were excited, so many things to see and do, and then we hopped on board yet another bus to head to SoFi Stadium ….. and they slept!

Once we arrived at our destination and roused the sleepers (again), we headed in to our first NFL game to see the Los Angeles Chargers take on the Denver Broncos.

The stadium was truly impressive, the theatrics, showmanship and spectacle of the sport unheralded, but did we understand what we were watching, not really. Apart from a few diehards, the rest of us were questioning what was happening and why, it helped if we watched which supporters were cheering.

The boys seemed to love the experience, it was their time to shine.  The majority of the girls really weren’t really feeling it, in fact what they were feeling was sleepy, well, actually they just slept. No more late nights for these poppets.

By the end of the game we had become experts, and marvelled at the Chargers loss and all their missed opportunities. We’ve become armchair experts.

Then after a hike to the bus, we hopped on to head to our hotel….and the poppets slept. Are you picking up the pattern for the day?

We checked in, ate, and then it was an early night decree by Bucks in preparation for our huge day tomorrow – Disneyland and California Adventure Park. That’s right people, we’re going to be “kickin’ it with the mouse”. The kids are excited, it’s sure to be a restless night in anticipation (and that’s just Bucks!)

 SoFi Stadium….you don’t say!

  • SoFi Stadium (/ˈsoʊfaɪ/ SOH-fy)[17] is a 70,240-seat sports and entertainment indoor stadium in the Los Angeles suburb of Inglewood, California, United States. SoFi occupies the former site of the Hollywood Park Racetrack.
  • The first indoor-outdoor stadium to be constructed, SoFi Stadium is the home of the Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams.
  • Apparently according to Taylor Swift's number one fans, Sharon Adams and Ciaran Buckley, this is also where Taylor held Eras concert. Ho hum....
  • The stadium hosted Super Bowl LVI on February 13, 2022, the College Football Playoff National Championship on January 9, 2023, WrestleMania 39 on April 1–2, 2023, and the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup final on July 16, 2023.
  • If you happen to be flying in or out of LAX airport around game time, you're in luck: The roof of SoFi Stadium has 27,000 embedded LED pucks, which project images and video that can be seen from airplanes.

The Flag!

The Flag will return tomorrow, where I’m sure there’ll be a mountain of entertaining incidents to choose from. Can’t wait.
