Day 3 - Monday 11 November

11.11.24

The students were grateful for a sleep in this morning and were welcomed with a large array of spaghetti, sausages, pancakes and other breakfast goodies. Adults were very keen to see COFFEE. We arrived at the Australian War Memorial with plenty of time for morning tea and to ensure our two representatives, Tilly and Chase, were organised to lay poppies at the Stone of Remembrance. While we waited for the ceremony, we went for a quick journey down ANZAC Parade to check out the impressive statues and memorials. The Remembrance Day ceremony had students in awe and inspired.

The afternoon was the opportunity to explore the Electoral Office and the Museum of Democracy. At the Electoral Office, we were able to learn about democracy, the constitution, as well as how to vote. We were even provided with the opportunity to take part in our own election - favourite fruit! The Museum of Democracy allowed us to channel our inner historians featuring lovely white gloves as we ventured around the Old Parliament House. At the end of our tour, we were asked what positive changes we would like to see in Australia and around the world. Some answers included:
•  raise the minimum wage
•  stop inflation
•  better pay for jobs
•  get paid to leave the house
•  get paid to go to school

We finished the day with a lovely dinner catered by Canberra Park and an evening spent at Questacon. The smiles could not be wiped from the students faces as we moved from one space to the next. From science experiments with miniature explosions, entering an earthquake simulation, viewing a man made lightning strike, to experiencing the true forces of gravity. All who entered Questacon were entertained and enjoyed their time. Bring on Tuesday!
