The aim of the High Performance Sports Program (HPSP) is to provide a learning environment and sporting opportunities for students to enable them to reach their sporting goals and obtain the necessary skills and knowledge to continue their development beyond school.
AFL, AFLW, Basketball, Cricket, Hockey, Netball, Soccer and High Performing Athletes.
The AIS has developed a framework to capture different sporting pathways, including applied research and practice specific to athlete development. The TWC Sports Academy is developed in alignment with the AIS Talent stage (with a focus on T3). The program strategy is defined by a strong adherence to deliberate planning whereby training is designed for continual performance improvements.
A head coach for each sport will be allocated to all student-athletes. Students will complete specialist coaching within their chosen sport which aims to improve their sport-specific fitness, skill development and game sense. Student-athletes will receive an individualised strength and conditioning program as well as specialist sessions dedicated to recovery methods. Student-athletes as part of the TWC Sports Academy course will have the opportunity to complete the appropriate coaching and officiating qualifications. The program will also provide further opportunities for student-athletes to engage with successful state and national athletes, coaches and experts via workshops, skill sessions and online connections.
Students who meet the criteria below will be provided with a mentor who will support their learning and wellbeing through a PLP, individualised case management and counselling support.
As part of the program students may be provided with the opportunity to engage with elite level athletes and coaches. Past experiences have included Port Adelaide Football club training session, Australian Olympic Cycling team seminar, Scott Macdonald webinar, Nick Hagicostas strength and conditioning session.
