This term Receptions to Year 2 students are studying Dance. In small groups, the Year 2 students have begun creating choreography to a song featured in the 2004 ‘Shrek 2’ movie entitled ‘I Need a Hero’, originally recorded by Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler. Students are being encouraged to use the lyrics as a springboard for movement ideas. They are also being challenged to choreograph moves that show changes in levels, body bases and pathways. As choreographers, they are required to plan moves in line with the tempo of the music and include a mixture of locomotor and non-locomotor movements to add visual interest. In addition, dancers are developing the important element of Dance called ‘Relationships’ by collaborating as a team to achieve their choreography project.
