In week 4, 20 students in years 10 and 11 Academy of Hospitality VET Certificate 2 studies participated in an Industry Immersion session - "The Big Day Out". Students designed the itinerary for the day, brainstorming experiences they would like to engage with over the duration of the event. A visit to Boost Juice was followed by a gourmet Tour and Taste shopping session at Shes Apples where smoked chicken, balsamic pearls, seaweed caviar and European cheeses were sampled. Students purchased items to construct their own gourmet bags for tasting and discussion. Many thanks to Shes Apples for supplying our group with complimentary hot chocolates! After dodging a thunder and lightning show the group made their way to Thyme @ the Lakes for an amazing, shared lunch. From Elderflower Mocktails and Antipasto platters to handmade Gnocchi, Buttermilk Chicken and a glowing Mushroom Lane dessert, students were absolutely spoiled for choice. A highlight of the day was being served by past graduates from the Academy of Hospitality: Meagan Bonham as Restaurant Manager and Angelina Townsend as Front Of House Trainee, this was an excellent experience for our current students. We are extremely proud of our students and their achievements and progress within the course, this year our students have provided services as a catering and waiting team in the wider community to generate funds which supported for the 'Big Day Out' in full - what an amazing achievement!
