On Thursday 26 September our Year 10 Concept to Construction class were welcomed to the APCO Service Station construction site where they met with the very friendly and supportive Kennett Builders to take an in depth look at the work that goes into preparing and managing the underground structures in preparation for the above ground build. Caolan Buckley (Site Manager) and Rowan Povey (Site Manager) along with Tania Lathlean (People and Culture Business Partner) and Heidi Burgum-Mountford (People and culture coordinator) who specially flew down from the head office in Adelaide to meet the class, took our boys for a tour around the construction site discussing the civil and bulk earthworks process which plays an important role in setting up a well-presented project whilst also answering question and exploring pathways. Local contractor GT Civil Solutions had numerous machines in operation on-site.
The class was then lucky enough to have Caolan, Rowan, Tania and Heidi come to Tenison Woods College and view the boy’s major projects. The Concept to Construction class have been working all semester to build dog kennels that resemble mini homes using 1st fix principles learnt during the course. Having the Kennett Builders team visit was invaluable as they were able to give specific feedback and tips on the builds. We thank the Kennett Builders team for all their time and support given and look forward to more visits in the future. The group have been welcomed back later this Term to look at how the project has progressed since their last visit.
