'Together We Can' Our Timor Leste Sister School Visits Tenison Woods College

Our Timor Leste Sister School Visits Tenison Woods College.

The Timor delegation has had a wonderful first week, engaging with Tenison Woods College students in classes, attending masses at St Paul’s and the Naracoorte parish, and exploring the beautiful Limestone Coast. At school, the students enjoyed Food and Hospitality, Child Studies, and Horticulture, finding them refreshingly different from their classes at COSAFRAX.
On Friday night, we gathered to celebrate the exchange program, with reflections shared by past students and teachers, Eddie and Fr. Domingos. The food, prepared by Jen and Jenny with support from Zalie, was incredible. The evening concluded with traditional dancing, storytelling, and lots of laughter.
Over the weekend, the delegation visited the Mary MacKillop Centre to learn more about our beloved saint. While the historic schoolhouse amazed us, for them it felt familiar, reflecting aspects of life in Timor, where cooking with fire and classrooms with wooden tables, chairs, and blackboards are a part of daily life.
The Naracoorte Caves were another highlight. Everyone was in awe as they walked through the Victoria Fossil Caves and explored the National Park.
On Saturday afternoon, the delegation attended a mass led by Fr. Domingos in Tetun, followed by a shared meal with Timor community members, including Charlie and others working in Naracoorte. It was a joyful celebration with delicious food and traditional dancing. Sunday’s mass was well attended by the group, followed by a lovely picnic at Valley Lakes—a much-needed relaxing day. We’re looking forward to week two!
