Year 9/10 Boys Soccer Success

05.07.24

The 9/10 Boys Soccer team participated in the School Sport SA South East Zone competition on a bitterly cold winters day on Friday 28 June. In Game 1, the boys played St Martin's Lutheran College and never looked back after opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Oscar Livingstone found space on the right wing and hit a great through ball for Masimba Chindewere to race onto and his composed finish set the tone for a clinical display. Vice-Captain, Marcus Gajic, bagged a hat-trick including one from the penalty spot, whilst Ryley Stephenson led the line well and chipped in with two fine efforts of his own. By the time the final whistle went, the score had blown out to 9-0, a really efficient performance.

After a long break, the team returned to Aston Fields, to play Game 2 against Mount Gambier High School. The start proved rather frantic and there were plenty of competitive challenges all across the park. Kahne Jeffrey slotted into right back really well and (co vice-captain) Ben Imani got given the responsibility to man-mark their best player, and he did a good job of shutting him down. Masimba capitalised on a defensive mix up to break the deadlock. He rounded the keeper to put the Titans up 1-0 at half-time. Early in the second half, we were even more fortunate to go up 2-0 following an own goal. A cracking corner from captain Nico Teodoro, who had been controlling the central midfield expertly, caused chaos and resulted in giving the team some breathing space. Sam Swiggs saved well with his legs late on and Ryley popped up once more to seal a hard-fought 3-0 victory, and send the team to Adelaide early in Term 3. Congratulations and well done boys!!
