Year 6 Canberra Camp

16.11.23

Our Year 6 students have recently undertaken an educational visit of Canberra - the national capital.

Students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs, with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy. We visited the Australian Institute of Sport, The Australian War Memorial, the Australian Mint, Parliament House, The National Museum, The Museum of Democracy (Old Parliament House) and the Electoral Office whilst in Canberra. We were even fortunate to view the Senate in action from the public viewing room. On our final day in Canberra, it was a privilege to be one of the school groups to participate in the Remembrance Day service. The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education.

To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding of $90 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs.

Tenison Woods College respectfully acknowledges the Boandik people are the First Nations people of the Mount Gambier South Eastern region of South Australia and pay respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, past, present and emerging.
