Open Boys Soccer

10.08.23

The Open Boys Soccer squad travelled to St Francis de Sales College for Round 2 of the Statewide Schools Knockout Competition and faced the prospect of taking on St Francis de Sales in the opening game of the day and then Encounter Lutheran College immediately after.

With several senior members of the squad unavailable, the fixture provided the opportunity for the several Year 10 players to play and highlight the strength of the College’s soccer program. While travelling down on Monday afternoon, the squad was able to share a meal together and then watch the Matilda’s match prior to their pre-game meeting. An early start on Tuesday saw the squad travel to St Francis de Sales for a 9.45am kick off and it wasn’t long until the Titans found the back of the net with Ronald Bati rolling the ball in the net to make it 1 nil with less than 5 minutes on the clock. Hard pressing from Nick Greenham led to a second goal before half time. Mee Reh Htoo and Moo Bya Say were combining well in the midfield and it was some slick passing that saw Bati finish off a fine move to make it 3-0. Alex Obedi scored a nice goal to make it 4-0, before the hard-working Jack Latham scored his first goal and Mee Reh Htoo found the net as well to finish the game 6-0.

The second game of the day saw the Titans taking on fresh legged Encounter Lutheran College who started well. The young Titans fought hard in the first half slowly working themselves into the contest and creating chances without being able to break the deadlock. Captain Seth Michelin and Austin Fatchen were playing well at the back and after a tactical change of formation Jack Latham broke the deadlock after some hard work from Bati. Latham scored making it 2 goals, not long after again combining with Bati and after some good work down the right side Bhati made it three. Finn Dickson wrapped up a superb performance with a super strike from outside the box finding the top right corner to make it 4-0. All players played exceptionally well in an outstanding even performance from the entire squad.

The Titans have now booked their passage to the State Finals in Week 10 and look forward to working together to prepare for the opportunity
