STEM Girls Academy Uni SA

10.08.23

Last Friday, eight students participated in the STEM Girls Academy at UniSA.

The group started the day with a lecture from Professor Nikki Stanford, about the many STEM career opportunities, from Engineering to Construction Management and IT to Environmental Science. After recess, the Year 9 and 10 students participated in a tutorial with Karl Grice and took a 'dive into coding'.

Throughout the workshop the girls worked in groups to build a submarine that could move up and down through the water, to gain a solid understanding of the principles of buoyancy, propulsion, and navigation. To complete the day, the group participated in another interactive workshop with the 'Her Tech Path' Women. Who shared their stories of women making a difference in the world through a variety of STEM disciplines.

We hope the students found the day insightful and gave them the opportunity to explore the many opportunities available for a career in STEM.
