Junior Music Camp

05.07.23

On Thursday 29 and Friday 30 June, thirty-nine students representing the Year 6 Band and the Year 5/6 Blaze Choir attended the 2023 Junior Music Camp at Karnkendi Campsite in Nelson. For two days and one night, students refined their ensemble pieces to be performance-ready for a concert at St Anthony’s Primary School in Millicent.

The theme of this year’s camp was ‘The Little Mermaid’. Students were in 7 teams and activities, with ‘best in rehearsal’ points awarded throughout the camp. It was great to see the student camaraderie that developed over the camp. There was much cheering on from the sidelines, as students competed for team points in creating banners, popping balloons, blowing table tennis balls across a finish line with nothing more than a straw and a lot of puff! Team chants demonstrated the high level of creativity of the cohort of students.

Congratulations to James Allen on winning the prestigious ‘Best on Camp’ award. James was always on hand to ask if he could help in any way, and at the concert stepped up even further by assisting with the sound and stage set-up.

St Anthony’s Primary School loved the show, which featured music performed by both ensembles, solo piano acts from Arshia and Scarlett and a fun group activity called the ‘Penguin Song’.

Thank you to all staff and students for a fun camp!
