Outstanding Performances at Generations In Jazz

10.05.23

Tenison Woods College was very proud of our participation in the recent Generations in Jazz weekend. Our Jazz Ensemble, Concert Choir, Senior Vocal Ensemble and Senior Boys Ensemble all competed.

The students were excellent ambassadors for the school as they reveled in three days of superb music, masterclasses and concerts with some of the best musicians in the country. This is the first year the Festival has returned as a live event after a lengthy break due to COVID-19 restrictions, all students performed well and have learnt a lot about musicianship, intonation and awareness of the commitment required to excel as ensembles. Highlights for the group were:

• Watching the amazing performances from Swedish group ‘Dirty Loops’ in their only Australian performance
• The Generations in Jazz pro Big Band who performed with Thndo and Adam Lopez
• Being amongst 4500 enthusiastic music students from around Australia

Special congratulations to double bass player Gabe Strachan (Year 8) and drummer Ryan Creedy (Year 12) who received a new award for most ‘Outstanding Achievement’ in their division. The adjudicator commented on their individual high levels of musicality and, in particular, how well they performed together.
