Honouring our Year 12 Students

02.11.22

Last Friday 28 October, we formally acknowledged the rite of passage for our Year 12 students and wished them well for the next critical stage of their learning journey.

I thank the students for the way they participated in the program of cooked or continental breakfast, farewell assembly, morning tea with families, whole school guard of honour, and final Year 12 Mass.

I also thank the staff and parents who played their part in making a special day, as well as the Sugarloaf Café for their wonderful catering during the day, including final celebratory cup-cakes made to acknowledge the Year 12s of 2022.

A feature of the day was a guard of honour as Year 12s moved to the chapel for their final Mass as a cohort. The guard of honour symbolised the journey of the Year 12s with us in our College community. At this time as they move to a significant period in that journey, we walk right along side the Year 12s and we are right behind them. The guard of honour indicated to the students that they have been very important to us and they will always be very important to us. But in appreciating this communal support and enjoying these rite of passage moments we asked the Year 12s to remember, when they take responsibility for their future at this time there are often no short cuts – it takes time, persistence or grit and full presence to reach their potential. They are in the process of creating something very special, so we urged them to give it the space, time and the full attention it deserves.

At this time I also offer deep thanks to the Parish Rosary Beads Making Group, who presented hand-made rosary beads to each individual Year 12 student at their final Mass together. A day of special memories for our group of graduating students.
