Be the One - Student Composition

19.10.22

Last term, Musicians from the school were sought to rehearse, perform and record Year 7 student, Gabe Strachan’s, ‘Be the One’.

Talented musician participants were Julio Teodoro, Ethan Hopgood, Stella Fritsche, Ryan Creedy, Dom Gertners, Angelina Townsend, Edie Jones and Alana O'Connell, as well as Nathan Creedy, Jack Heaven and Penny and Gary Mansell. The inaugural performance occurred at our recent Music Showcase to a very appreciative audience.

The brief for this assessment for Gabe in the Music Pathways class was to: “compose music that uses the Tenison Woods College 2022 theme of ‘Be the One’. The composition may be for any combination of instruments/voices. Students should consider how the elements of music are treated, in particular harmony, style, form/structure, and instrumentation.”

A quote from Principal, David Mezinec, to Gabe:
“Thank you for choosing this as your major assignment – I am thrilled. The song just makes you want to get up and ‘Be the One’ – so good! I am so proud of you, your wonderful teachers and supportive peers – a highlight to my year!”

You can watch the performance here.
