Year 11 Student Attends FIBA Women's Basketball as Media Rookie

19.10.22

On September 26 and 27, I attended the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, as one of two selected Media Rookies from around Australia. The other rookie was Nate Siasat from Marian Catholic College in New South Wales.

I attended the Tuesday night session of Puerto Rico vs China and then Canada vs Australia. After the Canada vs Australia game, I interviewed Marianna Tolo, and basketball legend, Lauren Jackson, at the mixing zone, followed by the Opals Coach, Sandy Brondello, at the press conference.

The next day I attended the games of Puerto Rico vs South Korea, and USA vs Bosnia & Herzegovina. After the Puerto Rico and South Korea game, I interviewed Puerto Rico coach, Jerry Batista at the press conference. Following this, I later interviewed recent WNBA Champion and WNBA All-Star Game MVP, Kelsey Plum, after the USA game. Later that night, I sat in the crowd and watched the Serbia vs France game and then Australia vs Japan.

I was able to meet sports journalists from all around the world and received an offer to travel to America to see Indiana University's sports journalism program whose students have attended national and international level sporting events, and get to know FIBA employees.

An unreal experience.
