Tom Linnell Receives Churchill Fellowship Award

21.09.22

College Sustainability Coordinator, Tom Linnell, has been awarded a 2022 Churchill Fellowship by the Winston Churchill Trust! Tom’s award is recognition for his previous and ongoing efforts in redefining sustainability-based educational experiences for young people. Tom credits the recognition of the Trust to the Tenison Woods College community for their active role in preferencing a more sustainable future.

Tom works closely with students from our Early Learning & Community Centre to Senior School, as well as our College community to drive important conversations about sustainability, climate change and ecological values, most recently in connecting circular economy principles to student learning.

“In recent years, the term 'circular economy' has been adopted as a potential way to flip society's addiction to the take, make, waste model. Schools, as a central pillar in Australian communities, have the ability to be a beacon of change and test innovative solutions, with young people playing a role in building a more sustainable future.”

Tom will now begin planning travel across the Nordic region to investigate the role circular economy education can play in minimising waste to landfill in 2023. Congratulations on your outstanding achievement, Tom!

Tenison Woods College respectfully acknowledges the Boandik people are the First Nations people of the Mount Gambier South Eastern region of South Australia and pay respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, past, present and emerging.
