Book Week

31.08.22

Book Week 2022 with the theme “Dreaming with eyes open” was a wonderful celebration which included, in its inaugural year, Australian School Library Day. A way to celebrate and promote all the great things libraries can do for students and staff when they are adequately staffed and resourced. Throughout the week students and staff enjoyed activities including a “Thank you library staff for…” notes and videos, a staff Quiz (which proved to be challenging but fun), the book week competitions and the finale being the fantastic Book Week Parade followed by class swaps to participate in activities around the short-listed books for this year. Library staff along with our Director of Learning, Scott Dickson, chose to dress up, taking inspiration from the “Little People, Big Dreams” series of biographies for children, and across the ELCC and Junior school students and staff had fantastic costume ideas using characters from a wide range of fiction, non-fiction and graphic novels. It is always amazing to see what everyone dresses up as. We all enjoyed seeing Mr Mezinec as the BFG and Mrs Dickson and Ms Coote as Tintin and a very convincing Captain Haddock! Our Year 12’s once again were great dress up buddies for the Reception classes. It is such great fun for them to participate in their last Book Week as a student. It was also wonderful to have parents, carers and friends able to be here to watch the parade, as everyone loves to be cheered along. Luckily we didn’t have to contend with the rain!

Thank you to everyone for their efforts in supporting Book Week and Library staff look forward to next year's Book Week and we cant wait to see what the theme will be!
