Science & Engineering Challenge

17.08.22

On Friday 12 August, students from Years 8 to 10 participated in the Science & Engineering Challenge in the Barrie Holmes Stadium. While usually an annual event put on by the University of Newcastle, this was the first competition to hit the town since 2019, due to the pandemic. The University crew tour the country delivering science and engineering principles in a team-based challenge format. We competed against Grant, Millicent, Bordertown, Naracoorte and St Martins’, coming third overall with a young team of enthusiastic students. We give effusive thanks to school parent Jim O’Hehir and Rotary for organising sponsors to cover the cost, making it a free event for the 150+ students involved. As well as contributing monetarily to the event, the many sponsors provided volunteer judges and helpers who gave up their time. Days like these are integral to inspiring the engineers and scientists of the future.

Thanks to UniSA, City of Mount Gambier, Kimberly-Clark, Rotary, Timberlink, Tonkin Consulting, District Council of Grant, District Council of Naracoorte Lucindale, ForestrySA, Australian Gas Infrastructure Group, Beach Energy, Inspiring South Australia, and Chemist King.
