The Crowning of Mary

25.05.22

During the month of May, the Church honours, with special love, Mary the Mother of God. Our Year 1 students have been learning about Mary over the last few weeks and celebrated their learning with a crowning ceremony in the Chapel. Having a crowning ceremony acknowledges the Queenship of Mary and her distinct role as our Mother and our Queen. It is also a beautiful reminder that we are all kings and queens in the Kingdom of God. We listened to the story of the coronation of Mary from the Glorious Mysteries and prayed the Angelus. The Angelus is a special prayer that reminds us of the Angel Gabriel’s Annunciation to Mary and her triumphant “Yes!” As part of the Angelus, we also prayed the Hail Mary, which is one of the Prayers of the Tradition. At the end of the ceremony, all students and staff placed flowers at the feet of our Mary statue in the Chapel.
