Year 8/9 Mixed Hockey Final Competition

25.08.21

On Tuesday 17 August, Tenison Woods College participated in the Year 8/9 Mixed Hockey Final Competition in Adelaide. The team played four round-robin games against South Australian schools at the State Hockey Centre.

Having not played together before, Captains Josh Milan and Sophie Waters supported the team in making some excellent plays throughout the tournament. Emily Eastwood, James Miller and goalie Harry Drew worked hard in defence during our first game against St. Marks resulting in 0-0 draw. Game 2 against Henley High School saw our attackers Tillie Derrington, Hannah Yates and Rhys White have numerous opportunities at goals only to be denied by the strong defence of Henley resulting in a 3-0 loss. The team played local rival Grant High School and had several opportunities thanks to the work of Rhys Earle and Jacob Hawthorne in the mid-field. Grant won the game 2-0 and went on to win the tournament. New players to the team this year Tyler Collins and Mika Koch-Little were vital in our final game against Trinity College as they worked hard to create movement on the forward line. Zoe scored the teams only goal for the tournament in the second half of the game resulting in a 3-1 loss to Trinity.

The team had a wonderful day at the hockey filled with fun, outstanding skill, and wonderful teamwork as we went on to finish fourth overall. Congratulations to our players who represented the College with pride and dignity and competed with great sportsmanship and ability. A special thank you to Mr Mustey for driving the bus and to the staff who organised the day.
