Paschal Candles to Light up Easter

31.03.21

Year 5 students, Jessica Oxlade and Chloe Chiesa are the winners of this years’ Paschal Candle design competition, run by the Catholic Identity and Mission (CIM) team here at Tenison Woods College.

Designing artwork to appear on the sacred Paschal candles, is just one activity students take part in during the Lenten period and reiterates the meaning of Easter and why it is such a significant time for Catholics. Year 5 students were asked to design a drawing which represents the Eucharistic community to which they are a part of.

One of the candles will be used in the College Chapel and the other at St Paul’s Church and will be lit for the first time at the Easter Vigil Mass on Easter Saturday.

For Catholics, the Paschal candle is a powerful symbol of a pillar of fire and a reminder that “Christ is our Light”.

Tenison Woods College respectfully acknowledges the Boandik people are the First Nations people of the Mount Gambier South Eastern region of South Australia and pay respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, past, present and emerging.
