Last Friday the College held its annual senior Athletics Carnival, except this year was slightly different. In 2021, the Year 7 cohort joined the high school carnival, and brought with them an abundance of enthusiasm, participation and talent. After the previous three days of competition including the 1500m, hurdles and 800m, Woods started the day off with a 102-point lead above second place.

Various records were broken throughout the carnival. Jacob Salmon broke the U/14 male 800m record with a time of 2:26.31, beating the old record by 2.39 seconds. Rex Jones managed to fly on Friday, breaking the U/14 male High Jump with a height of 1.75m. The previous record for the High Jump was 1.68m. McAuley’s U/14 male 4x100 relay team beat the old record of 55.38 seconds by over 1 second with a time of 54.16 seconds! Due to the introduction of the Year 7 cohort, a new age group for U/13 was introduced as well. As this was a new age group, all first place winners obtained the record for their event as well! Congratulations to all U/13 competitors that set records this year and all record breakers!

After all events were completed, the Spirit Stick was awarded to the House with the most participation, which this year was MacKillop! The Con Brown Award was presented to Rex Jones with his impressive High Jump record.

Best Dressed Female was presented to Abigael Chizungu, Lily Tucker, Astride Ndjeka, Tess Wight, Megan Chant, Danielle Thomas and Zoe Aberle, who were dressed as 'The Kardashians'. Best Dressed Male was awarded to James Holmes, wearing the costume of 'Ali G'. Best Dressed Staff member went to Emily Dawe who was Dressed as 'Merida' from Brave.

It was then time for the overall carnival house champion to be announced! In fourth position was MacKillop with a score of 3,960 points. Champagnat found themselves in third place with 4,019 points. In second place, McAuley managed a healthy 4,162 points. It was Woods, however, who claimed the title of House Champions with a score of 4,472 points. This is now the second consecutive year that Woods have been champions, and they aim to continue their winning streak for multiple years to come.
