Top Achievement at State Futsal Competition

19.08.20

Tenison Woods College took the opportunity to participate in the Open Boys Futsal Statewide competition at MARS sporting complex in Adelaide on 12 August. The boys landed in a tough group of competition with Roma Mitchell (previous State champion), Parafield Gardens, Unley, Adelaide and Oakbank.

The team found the opening exchanges challenging and took a little bit of time to find their feet in the opening game going down 6-3. In the second game, the boys were moving the ball around with speed and precision, executing the game plan to a tee, coming out eventual winners 2-1 over a strong Unley High School. The team were now in full flight and we had all the momentum going into third and fourth games winning both in convincing fashion. The boys totally dominated Oakbank with a 13-0 score line and finished off the day with a 6-1 win over the highly regarded Adelaide High. At the end of the round robin tournament, Tenison Woods College finished second with three wins and one loss. It was a huge effort from the boys and something as a coach I was extremely proud to be part of. All players performed and behaved in an exceptional manner throughout the trip.

Over the last few years we have been travelling up to Adelaide to take part in these tournaments to test ourselves against the best in the state and it is evident now that we are more than capable of winning a state title. We are no longer the underdog and people are talking about ‘the team from Mount Gambier’ and how strong we are. It is a credit to the boys that the soccer fraternity in Adelaide know who Tenison Woods College is and that we are a force. I look forward to the what the future holds for these exceptional young men. The team consisted of Connor Prior, Broc Linden, Ruben Gustavsson, Austin Rossi, Kaleb Gentile-Meznar, Zac Sneddon, Noah Gazzard, Gay Lay Htoo and Harris Livingstone.
