8/9 Boys Cricket Success

19.03.20

On Thursday 12 March, our talented Year 8/9 Boy Cricketers headed to Bordertown to compete against Unity College in the 2nd round of the Year 8/9 Boys Knockout Cricket Competition. After defeating both Grant High School and Millicent High School in the regional carnival, the team was eager to continue their good form. With the sun shining, Captain Hamish Case won the toss and chose to bat. Despite Unity’s quick fielding, impressive batting from the boys saw a competitive score of 148 runs after the 20 overs with Hamish setting the standard, scoring 68 runs. A solid partnership with Jaiden Prior was the catalyst for a strong total.

Things looked good going into the 2nd innings, with Jared Kuhl opening the bowling with some pace. However, Unity College weren’t down and out yet. Dropped catches and missed throws from the boys, along with some impressive batting from Unity College, concluded that they only needed a handful of runs from the last 2 overs to win. No need to worry however, with youngster Angus Clarke stepping up when needed, taking 3 wickets in the last over to guarantee the win.

Congratulations to all students involved. A big thank you to Mr Maney for coaching and umpiring throughout the day and parent Michael Prior for taking students to and from the Bordertown Oval. Well done boys and good luck in the next round!
