Spirits Were High at the 2020 Year 8-12 Swimming Carnival

13.02.20

The 2020 Year 8 -12 Swimming Carnival will be remembered as a wonderful day. Not only did we have ideal warm weather, but we witnessed fantastic participation by all students in both the Championship and Novelty events. From the start, students entered the Aquatic centre with smiles on, enthusiastically preparing for their exciting day.

The day was formally opened with an address from the 2020 Sports Captains, Emily Dawe and Hugh Armfield followed by two new initiatives with the House chants and the one lap house street parade, which gave each house the opportunity to walk together with motivating music and be united as one. Each house was warmly applauded by staff, spectators and fellow houses.

The championship races started just after 9:30am, with record participation from all age groups. Swimmers Thomas Bignell and Hayley Pearson looked dangerous early, winning all their races, breaking many records and later being acknowledged as the fastest swimmers of Tenison Woods College for 2020. Novelty events in Water Polo, Beach Volleyball, Scuba Relay, Big Bomb, Tyre Tube Relay and Obstacle Race were another big hit, with many students getting involved and scoring points for their house.

A big hit for the day was the wonderful playlists prepared by Mr. Dickson. Motivational songs, special effects and good humour from our MC helped to make the day a highly enjoyable experience. In addition, we saw great fashions on display by students and staff. Well done to everyone for the extra effort to engage in the house colour theme.

This year’s House Champions were McAuley, breaking an outstanding eight year winning streak of Champagnat. Due to the amazing participation by all houses, the wonderful student leadership, superb house spirit and highly positive behavior from all students, the House Spirit Award was shared by all of the four houses.

Please note there are many wonderful images on the College Facebook page that help show what a wonderful day it was.
