‘Cut for Cancer’ this Friday

14.11.19

This Friday 15 November, Year 11 student Emmason Ilsley will have her ponytail cut off at the College to raise money for the Cancer Council, as part of their Ponytail Project campaign. The event will take place under the sails at lunchtime and all students are welcome to come along and watch and also support the cause by donating money or purchasing items at the Bake Sale on the day. Emmason is passionate about this cause and has provided some background below on why she decided to take part in the Ponytail Project.

I have chosen to take part in the Ponytail Project because cancer has been a major part of my life since I was young. My nan suffered from cancer for multiple years and sadly she passed away a year ago as a result of breast cancer. My Pa has also been diagnosed with cancer, luckily, he is still going strong. My best friend Emily recently lost her mother Kristyn to cancer after a 12 year battle, this is a cause very close to my heart.

Watching people close to me go through the pain of cancer has had a major impact on my life and it’s a very close subject to my family. I wish to do as much as I can to try and minimise the amount of people who have to go through what I’ve been through.

I invite all students and staff to come out and support my campaign on Friday this week, as my best friend Emily Dawe chops my ponytail off.

In addition to the big chop, there will be a bake sale happening at the same time. Prices of baked goods will range between $1-$3. There will be music and entertainment provided by Mr Scheidl and Mr Dickson. There will be a collection tin for students and staff who wish to donate money.

I also have an online donation page setup. If you wish to make a donation, you can do so here: https://ponytailsa.everydayhero.com/au/emmason-s-ponytail-cut

My target originally started out as $1000, however, I’ve recently reached that goal and am now aiming for $2000.”
