Green Triangle Forest Learning Pathway Program

The forest and timber industry underpins thousands of jobs in the Green Triangle region and is focused on achieving world class sustainable forest growing, management, processing and manufacturing to ensure the long-term sustainability of its assets, associated business and surrounding communities.

The Ultimate Renewable Forest Learning Pathway Program is a partnership approach providing a unique opportunity for students to develop skills which support future pathways in this Industry.

The pathway program incorporates a range of classroom and field-based experiences. Students will also undertake several competencies from the Forest Growing and Management, Harvesting and Haulage and Sawmilling and Processing training packages which have been nominated by industry to support relevancy and access to future pathways.

 

Students will be introduced to a number of industry concepts including:

•             Forest ecosystems, energy flows and regeneration cycles

•             Wood science and research

•             People and forests; social, environmental and economic values

•             Forest management practices across landscapes including sustainability

•             Timber harvesting, processing, logistics, products and future directions

•             Optimisation

•             Genetic selections & Cell Structures

•             Carbon cycles, forests, forest products and futures

•             Technological advances such as Robotics, Automation, GIS, LiDAR and drones

In 2020, 15 places will be open for Year 10 students from across the region. Students will participate in an Industry Exploration program learning about the different aspects of the industry from seed to end product. Students undertake core modules from Nationally Recognised Industry courses as well as a range of industry led development opportunities. In Year 10, students will learn about wood science, genetic selections & cell structures, what makes a good tree, statistics and carbon footprint. They will also receive 20 Stage 1 SACE credits upon successful completion.
