Renowned Author Visits for the 2019 Reading Hour

26.09.19

Last Thursday the College’s Junior School participated in the 2019 Reading Hour. With much excitement, Staff and Students welcomed award-winning author, Sally Rippin to the College. Sally is well-known, with many children having read Sally’s book titles prior to her visit. Having the opportunity to meet her and to receive encouragement to keep reading, writing and drawing was incredibly special!

During her presentations, Sally shared her background and early experiences as an author, as well as tips for how to come up with ideas for writing. She encouraged all children to keep imagining, thinking, writing and drawing and made the dream of becoming an author or illustrator tangible for everyone. A time-lapse video showing the layers involved in creating just one illustration from a book in her popular series “Polly and Buster” wowed the children.

Later in the afternoon, children had the opportunity to collect pre-purchased copies of “The Book Buddies” - written specifically for The Reading Hour, and were able to have a quick chat with Sally, while having her personally sign their books.

We are extremely appreciative that Sally travelled to visit our school for this event. She made this year’s Australian Reading Hour a huge success that will remain a fond memory for many of our students in years to come. The College was incredibly fortunate to host such an inspiring, vibrant and passionate role model for our young people!
