Science and Engineering Challenge inspires students

27.06.19

On Friday 21 June, nine schools gathered at Tenison Woods College to take
part in the Newcastle University Science and Engineering Challenge.

The University has five crews travelling almost non-stop around the country
promoting STEM. They involve students in problem-solving challenges that
engage creative, logical and mathematical thinking. Twenty-six of our students
from Years 8, 9 and 10 formed teams of up to four students.

Everyone worked well, engagement was high and there was a general buzz of excitement. By midway through the day, we had a 40-point lead over Grant High School in second place, and despite tough opposition that saw the margin drop, we managed to fend off Grant in the afternoon to win the day by 3 points.

The Tenison Woods College students will now be invited to attend the State
Championship, being held in Adelaide during August.

Many thanks to Rotary for fundraising and for organising involvement by local businesses and thank you to those volunteers who offered their time and expertise to help with the running of the day.
