Charity Ball was in full bloom Raising Funds for Timor-Leste Immersion

06.06.19

The 2019 Charity Ball held on Friday 31 May, was an outstanding success.
Attendees had a wonderful time and valuable funds were raised for the
Immersion participants to gift to the communities they visit in Timor-Leste in
early July.

This year the theme for the Charity Ball was ‘Where flowers bloom,
so does hope’. The evening festivities began with a prayer by Father Dean
followed by a heartfelt talk by 2018 Immersion participants Bailey Musci and
Taylor Fatchen who spoke about where the money raised from the event would go.
Bailey and Taylor spoke with passion about how the money raised will help
the many communities this year’s group will visit. Funds will be gifted to the
Dominican orphanage and in particular, the kindergarten and primary school
they manage. This year the Immersion group is visiting a new village, Hatolia, and
Tenison Woods College is looking to establish a sister school/parish relationship
with them that will continue over many years. This village is a close neighbour of
Hatolia Matulia where most of the funds raised last year went towards building
a new school.

DJ Gianni Giurastante, an ex-scholar, got the tunes pumping and the dance floor
grooving. The lolly bar was a huge success as were the donuts and the amazing
Sugarloaf Café sliders, pizza and other delicious treats.
Awards voted on by the Year 11 and 12 cohorts were presented on the night with
lots of laughs had by all. Special thanks to our school captains, Emily Turley and
James Lucas for all their hard work organising these awards.

A special thanks to the Charity Ball committee led by PR & Events Manager, Jess Herring and PR & Events Trainee, Sienna Rossi who worked hard to ensure the event
had a student voice.

Also, a big shout out to the Mount Gambier City Council for allowing us to use the City Hall venue, Steve Mullan Sound & Lighting, Donut King
and the Vanderhorst family for the flower wall; Pepperlane Design and Events for providing decorative items; Perfect Pix Photobooth; the Sugarloaf Café staff for the
food; and all the Tenison Woods College staff who joined us to help to supervise the event.
