Year 6 cohort ‘Locked up’ in the Old Gaol

29.05.19

Last Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Year 6 students braved the frosty conditions for a two night stay at the Old Gaol. The boys took residence on Tuesday night, with the girls moving in on Wednesday afternoon.

The whole Year 6 cohort were challenged with team activities, building resilience, self-reflection exercises and enjoyed the many experiences they were able to participate in.

Staff also enjoyed spending time with their students and getting to know them all individually.

Participants Amity Fennell and Isabelle Drew recounted their experience at the Old Gaol:

We had many fun experiences on camp and were separated into boys and girls, boys the first night and girls the second. When we arrived at the Old Gaol, we were given a briefing and then found our dorms. It looked old and creepy on the outside, but inside it was comfortable and spacious.

Once we found our dorms and started to interact with others, we had lunch and played for a while. After that, we visited the rail lands with the boys and played footy. Then we walked back to the Gaol and the boys headed back to the College.

We also had a great experience with the activities.  These including bocce, golf, a scavenger hunt, and team song guessing and singing. We also got a booklet with some activities in it. The scavenger hunt was very fun.  We ran around the Gaol and wrote down answers to questions in our booklets.

In the afternoon, we had a personality quiz in groups around a table while Mr Patzel talked to us about the different personalities and which one we were. That night we played games in teams to guess and sing songs, which was one of the best bits. Afterwards we had tea, which was Domino’s pizza.

We hardly got any sleep but had the best night of our lives! Later the next day we held a very lovely liturgy that filled us with gratitude to leave and face the day.

We had amazing teachers! (And breakfast!) The teachers who joined the girls were, Mr Patzel, Miss Lock, Mrs Sims, Mrs Vivian, Ms Lloyd, Mrs Brodie and many helpers. We had so much fun and thank them for being with us on this incredible camp! We loved the experience and can’t put it into words how much fun we had. This time with everyone has taught us so much and we are so lucky!
