Lunch Time Career Chat series has begun

15.05.19

Open to Years 10 to 12 students wishing to learn about different career and study paths, the Tenison Woods Career Chat series launched in Week one with a session by Flinders University students.  Around ten students from the University, who are currently studying a range of health-related degrees – dentistry, psychology, medicine etc, took students through an overview of what the university offers and gave an insight into studying the different options.  In addition, students rotated through a number of activities relating to health careers, providing the Tenison students with a dedicated opportunity to speak with Flinders University students about a specific study area.

In Week two, we welcomed Donna Foster - Manager Tourism and Economic Development, former Tenison student Maddi Brookes who is now a Tourism Officer for the City of Mount Gambier, Brett Kennedy - Editor of The Border Watch, our own Jess Herring - PR Manager and Jason Scheidl - PR and Events Coordinator to discuss careers in Media, Tourism, Marketing, Events and Journalism.  This was a well-attended session where panel members shared a wealth of experience and advice to our students.

Today, we hosted Greg Megaw, CEO of Group Training and Employment together with Trudi Jones from TAFE who spoke about Apprenticeships, Traineeships, TAFE study options and career pathways.

We are exceptionally fortunate to have so many local, intrastate and interstate people willing to share their expertise, talent, recommendations and advice to students.

We strongly encourage all Year 10-12 students to make the most of this opportunity to hear speakers from a diverse range of careers and industries.  We also warmly welcome parents to come along to any sessions of interest, to promote the sessions to your children and to recommend that they attend.

The Career Chat series runs every Wednesday from 1.20pm to 2.00pm in the PRC Lecture Theatre and parents are also welcome to attend.  A list of the schedule can be found here.
