Subject Description

Year 8 Tennis Academy builds upon foundational concepts explored in Year 7. There is a greater emphasis on competitive. The focus is on enhancing basic netball techniques and understanding of the game.

This provides opportunities for students to develop and apply positive personal and social skills to establish and maintain respectful relationships while promoting fair play, resilience and inclusivity.

Sports Academy participants are expected to be committed to a high standard of performance and dedicated to developing their skills and knowledge within their chosen sport.

Content

The course emphasises further skill development and game play, with a focus on refining and consistently executing basic strokes.

Students will develop specialised movement skills and concepts such as:

  • Refinement and consistency of basic strokes
  • Adjusting grips for different shots (serve to groundstroke, groundstroke to volley)
  • Developing spin control and shot placement
  • Footwork for shot anticipation
  • Fine-tuning timing and rhythm in shot execution

Assessment

Practical and theoretical assessments are based on Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
