Subject Description

Year 8 Hockey Academy focuses on enhancing individual skills, understanding game tactics, and improving team dynamics.

Sports Academy participants are expected to be committed to a high standard of performance and dedicated to developing their skills and knowledge within their chosen sport.

Content

Throughout this course students will:

  • Skill Development: Refine techniques in dribbling, passing, shooting, and defending through targeted drills.
  • Game Tactics: Learn and apply basic game strategies, positioning, and tactical play during matches.
  • Team Play to improve collaboration and strategic understanding.
  • Fitness and Conditioning designed to boost physical performance and prevent injuries.

The following focus areas will be addressed in Year 8:

  • Lifelong physical activities
  • Games and sports
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Health benefits of physical activity
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Relationships and online safety
  • Fundamental movement skills

All year 8 ‘s regardless of their HPE stream will complete an Athletics unit at the commencement of Term 1.

Assessment

Practical and theoretical assessments are based on Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
