Subject Description

The Year 8 Cricket Academy is designed to further develop students' cricket skills, understanding, and fitness. This program advances students' technical abilities, strategic knowledge, and physical conditioning. The course emphasises individual skill refinement, teamwork, and the spirit of cricket.

Sports Academy participants are expected to be committed to a high standard of performance and dedicated to developing their skills and knowledge within their chosen sport.

Content

Students will:

  • Enhance advanced cricket skills in batting, bowling, fielding, and wicket-keeping.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of cricket strategies and tactics.
  • Improve physical fitness with targeted training for cricket performance.
  • Strengthen teamwork, communication, and leadership abilities.
  • Uphold the spirit of cricket, emphasising sportsmanship and fair play.

The following focus areas will be addressed in Year 8:

  • Lifelong physical activities
  • Games and sports
  • Alcohol and drugs
  • Health benefits of physical activity
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Relationships and online safety
  • Fundamental movement skills

All year 8 ‘s regardless of their HPE stream will complete an Athletics unit at the commencement of Term 1.

Assessment

Practical and theoretical assessments are based on Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
