Subject Description

In Year 8 AFL Academy students will build on their foundational skills and understanding of the game, focusing on enhancing their tactical awareness, technical abilities, and physical fitness.

Through this course, students will not only advance their AFL skills but also gain valuable life skills such as communication, collaboration, and resilience. They will have opportunities to reflect on their progress and set personal goals, promoting a positive and inclusive approach to physical education and sport.

A key component of the program is the development of fundamental movement patterns, which are essential for success in AFL and other sports. These movement patterns include running, jumping, catching, and kicking, forming the basis for more advanced skills.

Sports Academy participants are expected to be committed to a high standard of performance and dedicated to developing their skills and knowledge within the sport.

Content

AFL Academy Students will engage in a variety of activities designed to improve their proficiency in key AFL skills.

The following focus areas will be addressed in Year 8:

  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Relationships and online safety
  • Fundamental movement skills

All year 8 ‘s regardless of their HPE stream will complete an Athletics unit at the commencement of Term 1.

Assessment

Practical and theoretical assessments are based on Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
