Subject Description

The future of work looks dynamic and exciting. New careers and ways of working are opening up as new technology is introduced, globalisation continues, and the world adjusts to challenges posed by Generative AI. These changes will reshape the nature of work itself.

People spend a significant portion of their life at work, so it shouldn't be a surprise to hear that a person’s career is not a separate part of their lives. It emphasises their humanity and contributes to a sense of identity. Many aspects of a person’s life impacts both career choices and the decisions made throughout a career development journey. It is increasingly rare these days to remain in one occupation for life.

The purpose of this course is designed to help students develop knowledge, skills, and understanding relevant to the workplace. Students investigate topics such as The Changing Nature of Work, Industrial Relations and Finding Employment as well as undertake Vocational Learning and/or VET.

Content

It has three areas of study:

  • Industry and Work Knowledge
  • Vocational Learning*
  • VET

*Note: Vocational Learning can take many different forms, however, work experience is one of the more popular options. Regardless of which avenue is pursued, important proactive steps need to be taken by every student, with support from home, early in Semester 1 to ensure that they can continue the full-year course in Semester 2. Experience tells us that it is crucial not to leave it too late.
