Subject Description

Design & Technology (Girls Only) 

In Stage 1 Material Solutions - Jewellery Making , students use the design and realisation process to engineer solutions for the development of products or systems. The context of this area of Design, Technology and Engineering has a Jewellery Making focus with the inclusion of creative graphics.  

The students will investigate existing products and systems through research, physical exploration, practice, and apply their findings to create a Jewellery Making solution to the set problem. In Stage 1 Material Solutions - Jewellery Making is a 10-credit subject at Stage 1.

  • Design process
  • Oxy/Acetylene use for melting soft metals
  • Soft wire work (copper and aluminium)
  • Sawing and filing of precious metals 
  • Creation of casting mould suitable for sand casting in aluminium

  • Skills Tasks - 2 Tasks (Wireworks & Sand Casting)
  • Folio Tasks - 1 Task of 3 Parts (Design Folio, Product Record, Evaluation)
