Subject Description

In the Year 7 AFLW Academy, students are introduced to the foundational skills of Australian Rules Football (AFLW), with an emphasis on participation and enjoyment. The course provides opportunities for students to develop and apply positive personal and social skills, fostering respectful relationships while promoting fair play, resilience, and inclusivity.

A key component of the program is the development of fundamental movement patterns, which are essential for success in AFLW and other sports. These movement patterns include running, jumping, catching, and kicking, forming the basis for more advanced skills.

Participants in the Sports Academy are expected to commit to high standards of performance and demonstrate dedication to developing their skills and knowledge within their chosen sport. This program aims to nurture well-rounded athletes who not only excel in AFLW but also embody the values of teamwork, respect, and perseverance.

Content

AFLW Academy emphasises the development of fundamental motor skills through engaging activities and minor games.

All Year 7 ‘s regardless of their HPE stream will complete an Athletics unit at the commencement of Term 1.

Assessment

Practical and theoretical assessments are based on Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards.
