Stage 1 Chinese Background Speakers
Students will have the opportunity to develop and apply linguistic and intercultural knowledge, understanding, and skills to:
Students will have a grounded understanding of Chinese as a system. They will be able to use Chinese as the main medium for communication to enable them to engage with creative thought and expression in Chinese in an increasingly complex range of social and cultural contexts.
Students will be equipped with the potential to apply Chinese to work, further study, training or leisure.
Assessment Type 1: Folio (50%)
• Interaction
• Text Production
• Text Analysis
Assessment Type 2: In-depth Study (20%)
• An oral presentation in Chinese (5 to 7 minutes)
• A written response in Chinese (1000 characters)
• A written response in English (600 words)
Assessment Type 3: External Examination (30%)
• Oral presentation:
Section 1: Discussion
The 2-hour written examination has three sections:
Section 1: Listening and responding
Section 2: Reading and responding
Section 3: Writing in Chinese.
