Stage 1 Information Processing and Publishing 

Subject Description

Information Processing and Publishing exposes students to a combination of personal, business, and desktop publishing documents. The practical skills section focuses on using the Principles of Design in various applications to complete specified information processing or publishing tasks. These tasks may include flyers, leaflets, stationery, posters, brochures, and advertising material.

Students will also develop skills in web publishing using HTML5 and CSS with tools like Sublime Text editor and frameworks like Bootstrap. The product and documentation focus follows the design process, which includes Investigation, Devising, Producing, and Evaluation.

For issues and analysis, students consider the social, ethical, and legal issues associated with the use of computer technology for communication within business. These issues include security, confidentiality, privacy, identity theft, occupational health and safety, and intellectual property.

Content

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Create personal, business, and desktop publishing documents
  • Apply the Principles of Design to various information processing and publishing tasks
  • Produce flyers, leaflets, stationery, posters, brochures, and advertising materials
  • Develop web publishing skills using HTML5 and CSS with tools like Sublime Text editor and frameworks like Bootstrap
  • Follow the design process, including Investigation, Devising, Producing, and Evaluation
  • Analyse and address social, ethical, and legal issues related to the use of computer technology for communication in business
  • Understand issues such as security, confidentiality, privacy, identity theft, occupational health and safety, and intellectual property
  • Critique and improve their work based on design principles and practical application

Assessment:

  • AT1: Practical Skills (40%) - Includes 4-5 sub tasks
  • AT2: Issues Analysis (30%) - Includes two sub tasks.
  • AT3: Product & Documentation (30%)
