Subject Description

The Stage 2 Child Studies subject focuses on children’s growth and development from conception to eight years.

Students will study a variety of topics, following on from the knowledge they have learnt in Stage 1 and expand their understanding pregnancy, education and child learning.

Content

Students study the following topics:

  • Pregnancy and Diet
  • Children’s Literature
  • Children’s Toys
  • Media Impact on Eating Habits
  • Inclusive Education (Learning Difficulties)
  • Foods From Around The World

Additional Information: Students will be required to bring food or fabrics for practicals. Students are required to purchase a Child Studies Essential Workbook (approx. $32.00)

Assessment

Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types:

  • School-Based Assessment:
    Practical Activities (research/practical/ evaluation & action plan/ practical/ evaluation - 50%) Group Activity - 20%
  • External Assessment - Investigation 30%
