Subject Description

Students will explore aspects of the following topics:

  • Deepening knowledge of the body, dance skills, elements, structural devices and production elements.
  • Practicing safe dance techniques to prevent injuries
  • Using elements of dance (space, time, dynamics, relationships) to convey ideas.
  • Developing choreography and performance skills, including the use of choreographic devices and compositional forms.
  • Reflecting on and analysing personal and others’ performances.
  • Using dance terminology to discuss and refine dance practices.
  • Considering contributions to group performances and feedback from peers and professionals.
Content

Students will explore aspects of the following topics:

  • Technical (control, alignment, balance) and expressive skills (confidence, projection, musicality)
  • Structural devices: Choreographic tools and compositional forms
  • Safe Dance practices: Understanding the Musculoskeletal system and preventing injuries.
  • Choreography and Performances: Using elements of dance to convey ideas
  • Communication skills: Effective audience engagement
  • Innovative Movement: Building and manipulating movement phrases.
  • Collaboration: Working with others to creative and refine dance work
  • Performance Analysis: Reflecting on personal and others’ performances
  • Dance Literacy: Using appropriate terminology to discuss performance and choreography
  • Improvement Strategies: Identifying areas for refinement and development in dance practice.
