Subject Description

The Religious Education classroom is space of encounter, dialogue and wonder, where each student comes to understand that they are loved by God, encouraged to flourish in their learning and formation and are supported in realising their potential for agency and leadership.

Students will adopt one or more ‘big idea’ to frame inquiry questions to explore issues, concepts, and ideas, and to reflect on personal and shared meaning within the Catholic faith and other spiritualities and religions.

Students engage in reflective analysis in response to stimuli such as guest speakers, documentaries, and a range of texts contexualised by one of the six big ideas. They engage with the topic individually and in collaboration with others, using imaginitive exploration, research, dialogue, open questioning, and emphatic listening. Students also employ reflective practice to evaluate their personal and shared actions.

Student learning in Religious Education interacts appropriately and regularly with the complementary aspects of the religious life of the school, including personal and communal prayer, liturgy, social outreach, and youth ministry.

Spiritualities, Religion and Meaning is a compulsory subject in Year 12. Students must select either 'Stage 2: Spiritualities, Religion and Meaning (10-Credits)' or 'Stage 2: Spiritualities, Religion and Meaning (20-Credits)
