Subject Description

This subject involves an investigation of questions about existence, knowledge and ethics.
These questions will be explored through concepts including brains in vats, philosophical zombies and the nature and existence of God.

There are no simple answers to big philosophical questions, enabling students to develop their capacity to be creative and independent critical thinkers with the ability to articulate and justify different philosophical positions.

 

Content

The course consists of four key areas:

  • Ethics – a study of moral values
  • Epistemology – a study of knowledge and knowing
  • Metaphysics – a study of the nature of existence and reality
  • Logic - a study of the principles of reason
