Subject Description

Physics is a subject for students who are interested in understanding how things work in their everyday lives. It is the study of motion and forces, and energy and power, amongst many other things. It therefore helps in our understanding of how we move, the sports we play, how our vehicles and machinery work, and engineering in general.

Students are required to purchase an Essentials Education Stage 1 Physics Workbook (approx. $70.00), ordered by the school.

Students wishing to do Stage 2 Physicsrequire successful completion of Stage 1 Physics A and B. 

Content

By the end of this course, students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of: Linear Motion and Forces including scalar and vectors.

Assessment

The four summative assessment tasks have an equal weighting of 25%. These are an experiment and practical investigation on linear motion and forces, a test on linear motion and forces, a science as a human endeavour essay, and an examination on the semester’s content.
