Subject Description

In Stage 1 Dance, students develop aesthetic and kinesthetic intelligence, using the body to express and communicate idea. They enhance their practical movement, choreographic, and performance skills while exploring dance’s cultural roles.

Students will gain critical, creative and social skills preparing them for further studies in dance as a career path. Students will also be provided with real-word performance experience and the opportunity to showcase their talents on stage.

Content

Students will explore aspects of the following topics:

  • Deepening knowledge of the body, dance skills, elements, structural devices and production elements.
  • Practicing safe dance techniques to prevent injuries
  • Using elements of dance (space, time, dynamics, relationships) to convey ideas.
  • Developing choreography and performance skills, including the use of choreographic devices and compositional forms.
  • Reflecting on and analysing personal and others’ performances.
  • Using dance terminology to discuss and refine dance practices.
  • Considering contributions to group performances and feedback from peers and professionals.
