B grade or higher for the Science Component of Year 9 Future Thinking.

Subject Description

Students will develop their understanding of how the properties of elements can be used to organise them in the periodic table and explore the range of types of reactions that can occur and the ways in which their rates can be changed.

Students must choose one Chemistry module: Either Pre-SACE, or General.

Students wishing to do Stage 1 Chemistry in year 11 are required to do Pre-SACE Chemistry in Year 10.

Content

By the end of this course, students will be able to:

  • Carry out a practical activity and write a scientific report.
  • Write in the genre of a Science as a Human Endeavour Essay.
  • Predict the formulae of simple molecules from information in the periodic table. Balance equations.
Assessment

Students will be assessed on their scientific knowledge, practical and investigation skills as well as problem solving and communication skills.
